Talk about a transformation! This Art Deco style building in New Haven, CT, was originally built as a two-story residence in the Greek Revival style for industrialist Henry L. Hotchkiss and was completed in 1842. A third story was subsequently added in 1863. The building was acquired by the Lupoli family in the late 19th century and they eventually established a funeral home there that stayed in business for over a century. In the 1930s the Lupolis commissioned architect Lester Lulianelle to remodel the building in the Art Deco style, who included stylistic touches - like the fluted pilasters - to pay tribute to its Greek Revival origins. The funeral home closed in 2008 and was then remodeled as condominiums with interior alterations by architect Christian Dinkeloo.
