It’s Valentine’s Day and we’re in love (specifically with those tiny windows 😍)! This beautiful early 19th century home can be found in one of Vermont’s most picturesque villages. Any guesses? Let us know in the comments!
Mark your calendars for our upcoming Zoom lecture on Wednesday, February 24 at 6pm! Pre-registration for this free event is required, so head to nesah.org to sign up.
Talk about a transformation! This Art Deco style building in New Haven, CT, was originally built as a two-story residence in the Greek Revival style for industrialist Henry L. Hotchkiss and was completed in 1842. A third story was subsequently added in 1863. The building was acquired by the Lupoli family in the late 19th century and they eventually established a funeral home there that stayed in business for over a century. In the 1930s the Lupolis commissioned architect Lester Lulianelle to remodel the building in the Art Deco style, who included stylistic touches - like the fluted pilasters - to pay tribute to its Greek Revival origins. The funeral home closed in 2008 and was then remodeled as condominiums with interior alterations by architect Christian Dinkeloo.
The Archibald-Adams House, built c. 1795, patiently waiting for the snow to arrive tonight in Cherryfield, Maine.
This glorious little Art Deco gatehouse is a relatively rare sight in Vermont, but it’s even more unique because it’s sitting on top of 2 million cubic yards of compacted earth that make up the Waterbury Dam! 😳 The gatehouse and earthen dam beneath it were completed in 1938 to provide flood control after the devastating flood of 1927. 📸 Photo credit: @the_tyranny_of_influence
